Friendship Reading Reasearch
What we expect to find
We expect to find a lot of information how important good friends are and how they should treat you and the other way around. We also thought we would find a lot about how you can make or keep good friends. In the Netherlands friendship is a really important thing so we think we will find a lot about friends via the internet who you don't know and how you can have friends abroad.
Friends
Everywhere in the world children and adults make friends. Friends come and go in life. The trick is to keep good friends.
You can have fun from the equivalent relationships. Next to having fun, you can also get a lot of support from your friends. Friendships take as long as you wish hand you affect friendships with people you like. In short: The relationships are where you can get positive energy from.
People think friends are the people you can laugh with, but the real friends are the people where you can laugh and cry with.
Friendship is important
If you don't have any good friends you can feel lonely and sad, instead of if you have good friends who can make you happy even in bad times. Friends are good for your health. Friends can help you celebrate good times and support you during bad times. Friendship will have more advantages than disadvantages. Friends can make you happy what I already said before, but they can also reduce stress. When you have good friends it can have an effect on your self-worth. You can feel useless, if you don't have friends that will help you and will be there for you through thick and thin.
Making friends
Making new friends can be difficult but also rewarding. Life events, such as moving to another neighbourhood, starting a new job or having a baby, can isolate us from our former support group and make developing new friendships more important than ever.
Close Friends
As we all know friendship is very important and can have a huge impact on your happiness and quality of life.
Close friends give you joy and comfort, they prevent loneliness and even strengthen your health. Close friends you don’t make very easy, you actually need to earn them. When you are a very nice person and always helpful, you make quicker friends. A person who is very unpleasant and doesn’t really care about others doesn’t makes friends very quickly, they struggle to make them.
Online friends
Online friends are very easy to make, one click on a button and you have added a new friend. But having hundreds of online friends isn’t the same as a close friend you can always go to and share with. They can't visit you when it is your birthday or another special event. And you can't help each other when something goes wrong or when something bad happens. Our most important and powerful connections happen when we can see each other. So it is important to stay in the real world and not only online.
The benefits of close friends
- improve your mood
- help to reach your goal
- reduce your stress and depression
- support you in tough times
- show the importance of yourself
Bullying
Bullying is repeated aggressive behaviour that can be physical, with noise, or relational. Boys often bully using physical threats and actions, while girls are more likely to bully with noise or relationship bullying. The results are the same:
You can be angry, afraid, helpless, hopeless, separate, ashamed, and even due that the bullying is her on his own fault. You may even feel suicidal. Your physical health is likely to suffer, and you are at a bigger risk of developing mental health problems like depression, fear, low self-worth, or adult onset PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder).
You’re more likely to miss, skip, or drop out of school to avoid being bullied.
You can even be bullied by your own (fake) friends.
Why bullying?
Research shows that about 25 percent of kids is bullied ones. While there are many reasons why they can bully you, the main reasons are often your physical look or social standing within your class.
Bullies want to pick people who are “different” or don’t have many friends. It may be because of how you dress, act, or because of your race, religion, or when you are gay or lesbian. It can be that you’re on a new school, or moved to another neighbourhood and you haven’t made friends yet.
Conclusion
So, the conclusion is that it's important that you have good friends, you have to know if you have real friends. You have to be aware of friends via the internet who you don't know. If your friend is moving or going on holiday it's important to keep up the contact and mail or skype with each other. Good friends doesn't bully you, you can rely on them. They are always there for you.

Conclusion
Till now on we (our group) has learned a lot, more than we expected to learn at this subject. We enjoyed the skyping with India in the beginning of the school year. We made introduction videos; It's fun to see them back, because everyone's changed a lot in five months. We made an action plan all together and thought of the roles who belonged the best to who. And then the research, everyone did a part on his/her own and we added it all together. The enquete we think was the most fun of all, waiting for all the people's reaction who filled it in, with a total amount of 92 reactions at the end we made graphs to show the results. And then we did interviews, that was a lot of work, but we did it together so that helped. As last we wrote this comparison and conclusion to answer the questions and to compare our results to the results from the Indian people.
But now about the questions we had to answer;
What does friendship mean to you or define friendship?
Friendship is something special, it's sharing happiness and sadness with someone you love, that person is alsways there for you if you need any help or support and you are always there for them too.
How do you make friends?
Most of the time it goes automatically, because you feel if there is a click, you are going to do more things together and you get to know eachother better. Most of the thim there you create a friendship.
Why do people have to be friends?
Because the sharing of happiness and sadness gives people a good feeling.
How do you celebrate friendship day? How do you celebrate your frineds' birthday?
We don't celebrate friendship day, but we do most of the time give a children party, that means that you dont give a party for your family and kith, but you give a party for your friends. Most of the time it has a theme or you go somewhere to do something together like bowling or playing in a amusument park.
Name any activites that you undertake together with your friends
That's different between boys and girls and between the age groups but most girls like to chill together and go shopping and most boys like to drink beer together or play football. But there are of corse a lot of other things people like to do together with their friends.
Do girls have more friends than boys?
Maybe they are a little better in social things so they have more friends, but they say that boys have tighter friendships.
Do you think friendship has any negative effects?
Real friendship doesn't, but it can happen that someone becomes jealous or you have a different opinion.

Comparison
After we finished this project we made a comparison about friendship in the Netherlands and in India. In India and in the Netherlands friendship is a very important part of your life. Off course you have to make friends. In India people become friends when they really trust each other and they know they won’t judge each other. In the Netherlands you make friends very easy, while you don’t really know if you trust that person. Indian people have a lot of friends they know and met. Dutch people also have a lot of friends, but a big part of these friends are online. To summarise everything, friendship has a lot of common in India and in the Netherlands. There are some small differences but the main thing of friendship is the same,
And that is making you happy and supporting you!
