Family Values
Easter,
With Easter we normally have a breakfast with the family with lots of eggs and searching contests. There are also a lot of chocolat eggs in the stores. That is one of the things I like the most. What I also like is to take a spoon in your mout hand lay an egg on i tand walk, The egg may not fall. With Easter we are also free from school and work.
Sinterklaas,
Sinterklaas is a man who does not exist in real life but it is a celebration for kids so there are men who play Sinterklaas for the kids. Sinterklaas has also helpers, we call them Pieten. Sinterklaas rides on a horse with his Pieten around the whole country to give people presents and candy. So With the day of Sinterklaas the family comes together to open the presents and have a nice day.

Christmas is a worldwide celebration where people have Christmas trees in their livingroom and eat with the family on the Christmas days and be together. Some people in the Netherlands do get presents and others don’t because one of the reasons may be it is too expensive to have Sinterklaas and Christmas.

After searching the eggs the teenagers eats the eggs. Some people have a brunch with a lot of eggs. You eat a brunch around 12 o'clock. The most grandparents go to the church around 12 o'clock in the evening. The similarities with Christmas are that the grandparents and the teenagers eat together on the second Christmas day. With Easter, the grandparents and the teenagers eat a lot of eggs.

The Jewish and Islamic celebrations are respected in our society, because some of the Dutch people go to Jewish and Islamic celebrations and have no critism on the celebrations. The Islamic and Jewish people go to the Dutch celebrations too. In short, the Jewish and Islamic celebrations are respected by the most Dutch people. But some people don't like them because they're different. But anyone is different. I think it isn't fair.

Yes, many people respect the festivals and celebrations in our country. Some celebrations are less respected, but the most festivals and celebrations are. The celebration which isn't totally respected is Sinterklaas, because Sinterklaas is blanc and the Pieten are black. But the people who find it disrespectful don't understand that Piet is black, because he come through the chimney. And after many years the soot won't come from your face.
The main festivals in Balkbrug are.
- Truckfestijn this is a festival with many trucks to see. This event dures 3 days. The target groups are I think people between 12 to 65 years old. The festival stays open for all kinds of groups. It is a festival with lots of drinks and eats and then you have the Trucks to see around it.
- Trekkerslep this is a festival with tractors who are trying to pull a sled to 100 metres. If they had done that they get a full pull. The target groups are all kinds of people. It is a festival with much beer and other drinks. Around the track off the tractors.
- Also there is an oldtimer festival. This is a music festival with farmers music. And lots of oldtimers. Oldtimers are cars that are older than 40 years old. The target groups are people around 45 years old I think. This festival is open to all kind of groups.
- Grasbaanrace this is a race between all kinds of motors from crosmotors to speedwaymotors even to grascutters. This is an International event, On a grasstrack. It stays open for every human and for every culture. The target groups are people older than 18 years old. Because they eat and drink the most.
